Issue #2
Looking back/looking forward.
this week marks 4 years of my freelance journey as a photographer. I’ve gone from unemployed, to creator, to freelancer, to small business owner in that time. I don’t feel like I’ve “made it” yet, but life looks a lot different than it once did.
here are a couple of my takeaways, in no order:
i’ve learned that a business is like an iceberg. most people see your top 10%, without seeing the 90% more work underneath that went into making it.
i’ve learned that the invoice will always eventually hit.
i’ve learned that most people don’t actually care about the cost of the thing you sell. they care about it saving them time/saving them money/earning more time/making more money. if your product does what you say (plus a little extra surprise and delight), there is no limit to the price you can charge.
most importantly, i’ve learned that i still have a lot to learn. but i’m thankful for every day i get to keep doing it on my own terms, at my own pace, for people and projects i believe in.
